I write sins not trage

The Padres

Do you like the Padres? Even as a child I've loved the padres. It was my favorite thing to watch on tv at night. When I was 5 I got the chance of a lifetime…

I was having a normal day at school in kindergarten. Surprisingly, my dad showed up at my school and took me out early. "I have a big surprise for you; we are going to meet the Padres." He said with a grin. At first I did not believe him. But he had my Padre jersey in the car and told me our family friend Diane arranged the special event for us. This is going to be so cool. I couldn’t wait until we arrived at Qualcom Stadium.

When we got there, we were led to the field for a meet and greet. Wow, this place is huge. The sound of the baseball smashing into the outfield echoed throughout the stadium. I could smell the fresh cut grass. We came in the middle of batting practice. Some other people were there too, but I hardly even noticed them. I was so exited to be on the field.

One of the best parts of all was when my dad took my picture with some of my favorite players: Sean Burroughs, Bubba Tramell, Mark Kotsay and the manager, Bruce Boeche. I even went to the dugout even though I was not suppose to.

I was finally able to meet my idol, Ryan Klesko #30. I had never been more excited. He stood only 2 feet away from me. I looked up. He looked a lot taller than on tv. I slowly extended my hand and asked him to sign my ball. “Sure”, he said. Then, to my surprise, he continued, “Do you want a batting glove?” I said thanks staring at the leather glove. “Hey, you have two hands right? So why don't you take both gloves?" He said smiling while handing the other one to me. I thought I was going to pass out.
He walked over to the batting cages, grabbing his batting helmet, bat, and his other gloves. “crack,” He hit a crusher to right center field. Wow, I wish I could hit like that. He was amazing!

I had such a great time that I wanted to stay for the actual game. I tried to persuade my dad to stay for the game. “C’mon dad lets watch the game,” I begged.

“Nope,”Dad said while heading straight for the car.

It was one of the most special days of my life. My grandpa made a poster for me using all the pictures taken that day. It hangs in my room to this day reminding me of that unexpected afternoon.
